254 passengers were in the sought-after maiden flight, including the Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Haji Abdullah.

To mark the launch of the Dreamliner, Royal Brunei Airlines will fly the aircraft around the region for six weeks before starting long haul services to London on Dec 1.

The eco-friendly Dreamliner is installed with a changing multi-coloured LED lighting system, and equipped with lavatories catered for special needs passengers.

The national carrier is the first airline in Southeast Asia to fly the Dreamliner.

Speaking at a press conference, Deputy Chairman of RB, Dermot Mannion said:

"Today is a new day and a new dawn for Royal Brunei Airlines and for aviation in Brunei in general.

"As your commentator has already said, we are very proud indeed to lead the way, and to lead the field in Southeast Asia in being the first airline to introduce the Boeing 787 Dreamliner into commercial service.

"And because we are the first airline in the region to do so, we count it only appropriate that we take the first six weeks of operations to bring the aircraft around the region to give you, the travelling public, our customers, an opportunity to show the surprise and the delight factor which is associated with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner."
