5 scenic cycling routes in Singapore

Some of the trails in Singapore are designated for leisure while others attract international competitors. Some paths take the grand tour through parks and passing famous landmarks, while others present landscapes of trees and wildlife that characterise Singapore.

1) Ketam Mountain Bike Park
It’s the first in Singapore to meet international standards for mountain biking competitions. The park is located in Pulau Ubin and comprises more than 10 kilometres of trails with different degrees of difficulty as set by IMBA. The blue square trails have a combination of steep slopes and narrow tracks while the black diamond trails have long climbs and tricky obstacles.

The park also offers areas for free ride skills and dirt skills. Those areas are suitable for bike trials where cyclists engage technically challenging obstacles. Cyclists can take a rest at the shelters that are situated along the track. There are signages positioned at key locations to guide the cyclist around the place. The park is covered with greenery and is a good place for a large number of open country wildlife. 

2) Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Trail
The nature reserve is Singapore’s oldest primary forest which has astonishing variety of plants, animals and insects. Although biking is not allowed within the reserve, there is a 6-kilometre mountain biking trail around the reserve’s boundary which takes about 30 minutes or an hour to complete. The trail grade is from moderate to difficult. Bikers can enjoy the journey back in time to the old days when much of the island was covered with low land and tropical forest.

3) Western Adventure Park Connector Network (WAPCN) Cycling Trail
This cycling trail that takes you to eight different parks in west part of Singapore. Cyclists, who enjoy cycling leisurely in the great outdoors, should embark on this 20-kilometre trail. It loops both city and forested trails, and is arguably the best scenic cycling route in Singapore.

  • Choa Chu Kang Park
  • Limbang Park
  • Pangsua Park Connector
  • Bukit Batok Nature Park
  • Bukit Panjang Park Connector
  • Zhenghua Park
  • Diary Farm Nature Park
  • Hillview Park Connector

Cyclists can find an amazing variety of habitats while traveling on this trail. There are 550 different species of trees that attract many different kinds of wildlife to the parks. Apart from this, 50 pieces of birds have been sighted on the WAPCN.

4) Eastern Coastal Park Connector Network (ECPCN)
The ECPCN links up to popular beach parks at Pasir Ris, East Coast and Changi beach, which are hot spots for many sports enthusiasts. This cycling route provides people with an abundance of scenic views. Cyclists, who enjoy cruising along the coastline, should embark on the 42-kilometre cycling trail.  This trail will lead cyclists to many interesting places for various activities such as: 

  • Bird watching tower at Pasir Ris Park
  • Heritage tress in Changi
  • Coastal park connector
  • Cable ski at East Coast park
  • Forest adventure at Bedok Reservoir 

5) Northern Explorer Park Connecter Network (NEPCN)
A cycling expedition on this trail will enable cyclists to reconnect with the nature. NEPCN brings people to several scenic parks in the north as well as the fringe of natural reserve. Visitors get to explore the rich biodiversity in the area. It is a 25-kilometre cycling trail that brings people to Woodlands, Admiralty or Sembawang. Highlights of the cycling journey include: 

  • Rich biodiversity along the parks
  • Scenic view at Lower Seletar Reservoir
  • Sweeping view of the Straits of Johor at Woodlands Waterfront
  • Nature cycling trail at Admiralty Park
