$1.2b integrated resort to be developed near Bintan

A $1.23 billion world-class hotel resort and convention centre on Pulau Abang Besar, an island in the Riau Archipelego. Construction works began in July 2013 for the project which is set to sparkle as the crown jewel of Pulau Abang Besar.

The Islandia on Pulau Abang Besar, located near the islands of Batam and Bintan in the Riau Archipelego, is just an hour's ferry ride from Singapore.

Comprising hotels, resorts, residences and a nature-based theme park sprawled over a massive 1,200 ha, The Islandia is set to wow holiday makers, business travellers and long-stay residents. The comprehensive resort with modern lifestyle features is designed to offer them a rewarding and convenient getaway and holiday home in the heart of South-east Asia.

Apart from its beautiful natural setting and new landscaping, it boasts several unique and enchanting attractions prized by seekers of an authentic tropical paradise - clear waters, powder-fine sands and one of the best snorkelling and dive sites in Asia. There will also be a marina for seafarers and fishing enthusiasts.

As it is the only integrated resort of its kind situated at the doorsteps of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, it is already attracting property hunters and investors from the region who see the great potential of it becoming a tourist and business hub.

The pre-launch of the resort's exclusive waterfront residences one month ago has seen strong buyer interest. About 50 per cent of the ensuite studio villas rolled out have been snapped up. Each of the villa, which comes with ocean views, is attractively priced from $90,000.

Bigger villas with two and three bedrooms and gorgeous sea views will also be launched. The gated residences will make them ideal holiday homes with a difference. Holiday-makers looking for short-term accommodation will be spoilt for choice as they take their pick from affordable 3-star inns to 5-star luxury class hotels equipped with world class spas. The Islandia development company is currently inviting international hotel chains to partner and manage the six hotels.

Chairman Mr Andriel Wiyaja of the developer Huafa Assets said: "When I first stepped foot on the island in 2010, I knew that I have found a hidden gem. I wanted to develop this island into the next sensational getaway, for international holidaymakers and tourists in the region. It has taken me three years to procure the land necessary for this endeavour."

"The prime seaview area has an unobstructed view of the South China Sea and turning this area into a integrated resort has always been a major dream to be fulfilled. Through this joint venture with Cuffz Holdings who will lead the project management of the resort, I have full confidence that we will have a world-class destination, a stone's throw from Singapore and Malaysia, which are also well-known tourism destinations in their own right."

An environmentally-conscious development

The joint venture company will take utmost care to preserve the natural surroundings of the island, its coastlines and rich sea life as it construct the massive project. Supporting sustainability in eco-friendly ways, it will try to recycle natural materials affected by the redevelopment and use them in useful ways in the project.

Mr Fan Ren Ray, founder and chairman of Cuffz Holdings, the specialist project managers of The Islandia said: "We are very excited to be afforded this opportunity to conceptualise and contribute in such a significant way to the creation of The Islandia. It is an ambitious project but not one that we have had zero experience in. Cuffz Holdings have been building a portfolio of highly successful projects that have taken us from Philippines to China, Malaysia to Cambodia and we are finally glad to be offering a project closer to home."

"Singaporeans and friends across the region would appreciate the fact that The Islandia will be groundbreaking for offering innovative approaches to the way they holiday. From a completely nature-centric theme park that would rely on zero digital effects to lotus-like water villas that rests on calm waters next to private marinas, we know that The Islandia will be the next sensational getaway with a multi-faceted offering that makes this an integrated resort like no other."
