Making the right moves

The Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT), which was Singapore's first professional dance company and founded in August 1987, has had many successes over the years.

But its first studio space was in a rickety old building along Lloyd Road, and it started off with only seven dancers, with one saying that he was paid only $700 a month.

They also had to face challenges like illnesses that struck during performances and death of people connected to the company.

Nevertheless, the SDT has come a long way since, and two of its pioneers recount this journey with The New Paper on Sunday.
