How To Throw A Budget Christmas Party – Singapore Style!

It’s the season of giving, feasting and partying again. In just two weeks, Christmas bells will chime and people will flock together to celebrate this joyous occasion.

You might just be hyped up to throw a Christmas party. However, how can you go about doing it without stretching your dollar and still have a fun and festive time?

Guest list, decorations and menu – the three main considerations for a Christmas party where you can tighten the purse strings and save those pennies.

Always plan your party and clearly state your budget, indicating the maximum amount you want to spend on the party. It is crucial that you do not spend more than what you have planned or your budget will fail.

You may be tempted to buy pretty invitation cards to invite your guests, however, do remember it will cost you a sum, including paying for the postage. Nowadays, with the aid of new communication technologies, you can invite your family and friends through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, by phone, by email or even ask them face-to-face. If possible, keep your guest list under control. Having a smaller party will just make it a more unforgettable and intimate affair. (Not to mention, it will also help you to save money!)

As for decorations, most people have the notion that they have to decorate the whole house for a Christmas feel. Just keep it simple and easy, and concentrate on key areas that will have the most impact. Such areas include the front entrance, where people get the first impression, followed by the buffet table and bar, and the Christmas tree.

On the other hand, you can also purchase cheap ornaments if there are time constraints. The 5 best places to buy Christmas decorations in Singapore will be firstly, my personal favourite, Daiso. You can get absolutely anything and everything, from wrapping paper to Christmas trees and Snowman figurines at a whopping low price of $2 only! What a steal! Other stores include Mustafa Centre, Adam Eve Style, Spotlight and Ikea.

Last but not least, plan and prepare your food. You will not want to face the situation of having too much food and needing to throw them away, or not having enough to keep the party going. Get nibbles at a low cost from value stores conveniently located in every neighbourhood. Forgo catering and try doing the cooking yourself. It’ll be even better if you make it a potluck affair. It will help you save a great deal of money and lessen some stress off you. In addition, your guests can take home new recipes after the party!

What’s Christmas without some booze? Have a few bottles of wine and spirits and perhaps a few mixers at home. Let your guests know in advance what will be available and allow them to bring other drinks of their preference.
