Every school can be good when every educator is caring: Education minister

Every school can be good when every educator is caring: Education minister

He said that posting principals to new schools is how the Ministry of Education (MOE) recharges school leaders and allow educators to better share and collaborate with one another. This is done by deploying school leaders to schools where assignments are meaningful and will challenge and develop the former.

In order for every school to be a good school, Mr Heng also said this only happens when every teacher is a caring educator. This can only happen when each principal has the support of MOE and the school community.

Mr Heng added that principals who take up new postings do not face a blank slate, as they can do even more for the students and teachers because of foundations laid by previous principals, as well as parents who have already done much at that school.

Here is his Facebook posting in full:

You may have learnt from the papers on Saturday that I will be sending some of our most experienced and well regarded principals to head schools in our heartland. This is one of the many ways in which we are working hard to make Every School a Good School.

Every School a Good School happens when Every Teacher is a Caring Educator, and all the more so when each Principal has the support of the whole MOE family and the school community to do his or her best for that school. At MOE, we work intensively to develop our school leaders – when we deploy them to schools, we make sure their assignments are meaningful ones that challenge and develop them, and allow them to bring new ideas and expertise into schools. In this way, our Principals gain experience and wisdom in school leadership, and every school they are charged to lead will benefit from a transfer and spread of good practices across our education landscape.

This is also how we recharge our school leaders and allow our educators to better share and collaborate with one another. Each Principal who takes up a new posting does not face a blank slate – he or she can do even more for the students and teachers at that school because of the foundation laid by the Principals and supportive parents that have already done much at that school.

As our Principals take up their new postings at the end of this year, I am confident each and every one will find tremendous meaning and joy in getting to know the strengths and the aspirations of their new schools and students, and take them to new heights. I am excited for the best practices you will bring to your new schools, as much as I look forward to the ways in which you will learn from your new postings how to make our education system an even better one. I wish you all the best in your new postings!

May I encourage parents and the community to give all our school leaders and teachers your most enthusiastic support. With you as our partners, our school leaders will be able to achieve a lot more for our children.
