4 easy ways to maintain your skateboard

After using the board for a period of time, there will be dirt, dust and grime accumulated at the wheel bearings. These may prevent the wheels from turning freely and this can cause your skateboard to slow down. Here are some useful tips for maintaining your skateboard:

1)      Avoid having a wet deck

To avoid having to replace the deck of your skateboard it is better for you to keep an eye it. Use it with extra care and avoid getting it wet. If the deck gets wet, try to dry it as soon as possible. If the deck is cracked, it is essential for you to replace it with a new one.

2)      Keep an eye on the grip tape

Check the grip tape to ensure it’s free from debris. You may want to use a brush to whisk away the dirt. If it gets really dirty, it’s recommended to use a mild detergent and water to clean it. However, remember to dry it as soon as possible. If the tape of your skateboard is in a bad condition, you may wish to replace it with a new one. In order to get your old tape off, use a hair dryer to warm the tape. Thereafter, simply pry a corner loose and continue to heat the tape as it pull from the board. Once it’s removed, you can replace it with a new one easily.

3)      Check the wheels and bearings

Make sure the wheels on your skateboard are tightened properly. Check the condition of the wheels to ensure that they are even and smooth. You should replace the wheels once they show signs of wear and appear uneven. When the wheels are not moving freely, the bearings need to be cleaned or replaced, especially if it is in a bad condition.

4)      Apply lubricant

Lube the part that is not moving feely. Without proper lubrication, the wheels and bearings will grind together and wear out easily.

To keep skateboard moving at the top speed, regular maintenance is all you need.
