10 simple ways to relax yourself

People in Singapore tend to work long hours in the office, leaving themselves with little time to rest. With the Labour Day holiday coming right up, take the opportunity to relax and have a great rest. Here are 10 ways you can do that:

1. Finish off your assignments quickly

Let’s face it: there will always be a pile of work waiting for us to complete. The best way to put work off your mind is to complete what you need to first thing in the day, so you’ll have the rest of the day to enjoy. Procrastinating will only prolong your anxiety and heighten your stress level.

2. Refrain from checking your emails

There’s a difference between checking your email once in the morning and checking it constantly throughout the day. You’ll only be able to fully relax if you don’t worry about work all the time.

3. Take a long cool shower

Refresh yourself by getting in the shower and stand under the running water for as long as you like. Put on some of your favourite music beforehand and concentrate on it.

4. Pamper yourself

Put on a facial mask, visit the spa for a massage or get a manicure done. You’ve worked so hard so it’s definitely time for some pampering to make yourself feel better!

5. Catch a movie or watch your favourite TV show

Check out what’s new in the cinemas and go watch a movie. Otherwise, stretch out on your sofa and catch up on your favourite TV show episodes.

6. Spend time with the people you love

Meet up with your best friends for a drink, take your children on an outing to the zoo or go on a romantic picnic date with your boyfriend or husband.

7. Occupy your mind

Enjoy a different sort of intellectual stimulation. Do a crossword puzzle, play a board game with your family members or write a blog on your computer. You’ll find that you’ll be able to relax at the same time.

8. Enjoy a good meal

Been wanting to try that new café around the corner? Go on. Order your favourite dish, drink and dessert and savour your perfect meal!

9. Do something you love

Whether it’s baking, doing community work, playing golf or hitting the gym, doing something you enjoy will reinforce a positive energy within you.

10. Get enough sleep

There’s nothing worse than not having enough sleep. If you find it difficult to fall asleep, try doing something to make yourself feel sleepy. Drink a hot beverage - camomile tea has a calming effect on the body, burn some essential oils and lie in bed with a book.

It’s not easy to get your mind off work, but ultimately you are responsible for your own actions and decisions. Choose not to be constantly bogged down by work and worries, and start learning to relax! For more tips and advice, visit
