Rush-hour shopping

H&M's latest Versace tie-up causes a frenzy

CLOSE to 300 shoppers gave new meaning to 'rush-hour traffic' at the H&M store in Orchard Building yesterday morning.

It was just 8am when the store opened to eager shoppers, who were let in by store minders in groups of 20 - and given all of 10 minutes each to snag their buys. The more hardcore shoppers had been standing in line outside the store since 5pm the day before.

The attraction? The worldwide launch of H&M's tie-up with Italian fashion house Versace, offering a 100-piece collection which includes clothing, accessories and homeware. It is the first such collaboration to see a launch in Singapore, and the 15th for H&M, which has stores in more than 40 countries.

The frenzy seen here over the tie-up was no different from that seen elsewhere at past launches.

Among the shoppers were a pregnant woman, schoolgirls on the hunt for their prom dresses, and at least one person who admitted to having faked medical leave. Just one rack of clothing was left after five hours.
