More than 1,000 participants took part in the first vertical mass run held at the iconic 50-storey Housing Board (HDB) flats at the Pinnacle@Duxton on Sunday.

Grassroots leaders from the Tanjong Pagar-Tiong Bahru Community Sports Club and the residents' committee organised the run to encourage residents to participate in community activities.

"The response was even better than we expected," said Senior Minister of State for Law and Education Indranee Rajah.

The MP for the constituency added that it was also encouraging to see such a large number of residents volunteering to help with the event, prompting organisers to mull over whether to make the run an annual affair.

"To me, the most important thing is whether the residents are okay with it, because this is held in the middle of a residential precinct," said Ms Indranee. "But if the residents are happy with it and they support having the event again, I think we should do it."

Ms Indranee also expressed disapproval of the latest incident of vandalism at an SMRT train depot and the similar case reported at a Toa Payoh block rooftop, reported last Wednesday. "You don't go around defacing other people's property," said Ms Indranee on the sidelines of a community event. "The ability to express oneself does not require vandalism."
