Haze update: In Dumai, PSI reaches 491 on Friday morning

THE PSI in Dumai has reached 491 on Friday morning, said its mayor in an interview with The Straits Times.
Mr Khairul Anwar described the PSI level as "blackish red", that is "higher than hazardous level".
"We will intensify joint efforts with local police, Attorney General's Office and if necessary, the local military, to really get to the bottom of this and find the culprits," Mr Khairul told The Straits Times from his residence in Dumai.
"I don't believe this is just accidental fire started by someone's throwing of cigarette butt. The fire was definitely caused by deliberate burning of land."
The mayor also said there are no Singapore companies operating in Dumai, but he can't be sure if there are individual Singaporeans working on the plantations here.
He added that he will be issuing an appeal to the public to pray for rain.
