Feel good, look good

Every time the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show comes around, male homo sapiens.

I’ve no idea what Eve looks like, but Victoria’s Secret models appear to be blessed with all the features of the perfect woman – gazelle-like legs that stretch forever, fabulously flat tummies, firm butts, lithesome bods, big boobs, beautiful flowing hair and traffic-stopping looks.

Don’t envy this bevy of supermodels
But, ladies, even as we watch them strut their stuff, let’s remind ourselves not succumb to one of the seven deadly sins – ENVY! Instead, we should look on the bright side: even though we don’t possess supermodel looks, we have many other things to be thankful for. The following are just some of them. around the world drool all over themselves as they feast their eyes on this flesh-cum-fashion parade. Female viewers, on the other hand, are likely to be lamenting (either aloud or subconsciously): “Oh God, why are you so unfair?!”

We don’t have to get out of bed each day worrying about what we should not have for breakfast, lunch and dinner because our salad bowls will be affected by what we put in our mouths. In fact, we can eat the chicken rice, bah kut teh, laksa and other grub we love so dearly (within healthy limits, of course) without being assuaged with guilt each time we ingest a blob of fat or two.
According to a website on “Top 10 tips to becoming a supermodel”, supermodels must be at least five-foot-nine and weigh 50 to 55kg (a body-mass index of 16 to 18). And Richard Habberley, a top agent with Elite, which represents Victoria’s Secret hottie Alessandra Ambrosio, says: “Models starve themselves, and we tell them to.”
We don’t have to hit the gym almost daily to keep those flat abs in good shape. Just imagine what a drag that must be!
We don’t have to risk spraining our ankles or breaking our legs because we have to wear those ridiculously unstable killer heels.
Our “sell-by” dates are much longer than those of most models. Very few models will have a long-running career like Heidi Klum or Tyra Banks.

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
The most beautiful people in the world don’t necessarily have to score in the looks department. Mother Teresa, for instance, had a hunched back and her face was deeply lined, but her beauty always shone through because her heart glowed with love and her eyes reflected her kind spirit.

We don’t have to be utterly self-sacrificing like Mother Teresa, but we should simply be thoughtful in our words and daily actions. Aside from being kind and caring, people with the most attractive traits are those who emit a certain aura that imbues a well-developed sense of self-esteem and self-confidence, which can only come from feeling good about themselves and being happy with the way they are leading their lives.
