Deck the windows

Retailers here go all out to dress up their window displays
The Straits Times - December 16, 2011

Deck the windows Some of the displays found in the windows of stores here include Tangs Orchard's enchanted forest.

In the spirit of the season, some retailers have gone the extra mile to create festive window displays.

Jewellery store Tiffany & Co's holiday theme is inspired by Central Park in New York City.

Its store windows at its four outlets, including 01-05 Takashimaya Shopping Centre and 01-05 Raffles Hotel, feature a moving carousel as well as miniature animals such as zebras, lions and giraffes hitched to sleighs bearing the jewellery brand's iconic robin-blue boxes.

Over at Tangs Orchard, four of its windows facing Orchard Road now house an enchanted forest.

It is fashioned from branches and twigs that were woven together to create the effect of tree limbs.

Ms Cindy Tong, Tangs' assistant vice-president of visual merchandising, says: 'Christmas window displays add vastly to the atmosphere and magic of the holiday season and are an important tradition for Tangs.'

She declines to reveal the cost of decking out the windows. She says the store's visual merchandising team and contractors worked for almost a month to install everything.

More importantly, the fancy decorations 'draw customers to the store and increase footfall' during this competitive retail season, she adds.

Finally, stop by the Anne Fontaine boutiques at B1-90A Marina Bay Sands and 01-01 Scotts Square to check out its origami paper dress art installations.

All its 70 stores around the world, except the one in Los Angeles' Rodeo Drive, feature this specially commissioned white origami dress, which was inspired by the white shirts that the designer is known for.
