Protect your property

You have had a long and tiring day at work. Finally, you reach home. You turn your house key and gently push open the front door, only to discover that your home has been cleaned out. Your valuables and electrical appliances are gone.

Don’t let this happen to you. Protect your property and enhance the security of your home. Consider these precautionary measures:

  • Install a door viewer, a latch chain and at least one surface latch on your main door.
  • Get window grilles with good-quality key-operated locks for all your windows.
  • Lock all the doors and windows even when you intend to leave your home unattended for a short while.
  • Keep large sums of cash in banks, and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
  • Do not hide keys under the doormat, in flower pots or on top of the electricity meter box outside your HDB flat.
  • Put on hold all deliveries such as newspapers when you are away from home, even for a couple of days, so that passers-by cannot tell that no one is in.
  • Change all locks when your flat keys are lost or stolen.
  • Ask your neighbours to help keep an eye on your flat when you are away.
  • Inform your neighbourhood Police Post (NPP) whenever you go on overseas trips.
  • Participate in neighbourhood watch schemes to always stay vigilant.
