LG Optimus G Pro available here in July

Following the success of the LG Google Nexus 4 and LG Optimus G, the Korean electronics maker is following it up with something bigger, faster and more powerful in the form of the LG Optimus G Pro.

An update to the LG Optimus G launched here earlier this year, the Optimus G Pro sports a 5.5-inch display, offering a screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels and a display density of 400 pixels per inch.

Unlike the Optimus G, the Optimus G Pro has a removable rear cover that follows the same pixel pattern seen on its LG Google Nexus 4. It comes with 16GB of internal memory and has a microSD slot to expand its storage capacity.

Inside, it offers 2GB of RAM for multi-tasking, and is powered by a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core 1.7GHz processor. A bigger 3,140mAh battery powers the device and a new addition is the wireless charging feature, based on the Qi standard. This allows the device to be charged with other wireless charging docks that support the Qi standard.

Hardware aside, LG has also added more software features to differentiate its Android device from competitor smartphones. Its Dual Camera and Recording feature uses the 13-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front camera simultaneously to capture an image or video of both the subject and user. The VR Panorama feature lets you capture photos of the environment around you, and stitches them into a single image that you can rotate 360 degrees horizontally and vertically.

Launched in South Korea in February, the LG Optimus G Pro broke the company's sales record with 500,000 units sold in the first forty days. The device was launched in the US market in May, and it will be rolled out in Asian markets ahead of European countries, starting with Hong Kong this month and Singapore in early July.

LG has not announced local pricing but a spokesman said that the Optimus G Pro will be priced slightly higher than the LG Optimus G, which was sold at $798.
