Shopping for a dryer? Here are some of the most energy efficient condenser dryers. However, they can be pricey.

Dryers are also available for below $1,000 but they tend to be air-vented ones, rate poorer on the energy-efficiency level and have fewer green ticks - a rating system from the National Environment Agency, which awards a maximum of four ticks for the most energy-efficient appliances.

* The actual annual energy consumption depends on factors such as types of load, drying programme and frequency of maintenance.

** Estimated energy cost based on current electricity tariff rate of 26.98cents/kWh, for three washes a week over a year.

Figures taken from National Environment Agency's database of registered energy-efficient goods.
