Doctor live streams surgery with Google Glass

While Google Glass may seem like a gimmick to some, a doctor in Ohio has shown another use for the device. Dr. Christopher Kaeding of Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center live streamed a knee surgery to various colleagues and medical students using Glass.

Dr. Kaeding used Glass to allow viewers to experience his point-of-view while he was performing a surgery on a 47-year-old patient's anterior cruciate ligament.

Glass also allowed Dr. Kaeding to consult with his distant colleague during the operation as students of the Ohio State University College of Medicine viewed the live stream on their laptops.

This landmark event further proves how Glass can aid the medical community, with some believing that Glass could be used during surgery to view patients' MRI scans and calling up X-rays once the respective apps have been developed.
