Consumers will now have information in the palm of their hands with a new smartphone application launched by the Consumers Association of Singapore (Case).

Launched on Saturday morning, the phone application is part of Case's efforts to educate consumers and to provide information on-the-go so as to enable them to make better purchasing decisions.

'Given the diverse and evolving range of consumer products and services, the most sustainable approach is consumer education to empower consumers to discern the best deals for themselves and reject unrealistic promises,' said Minister for Trade and Industry Teo Ser Luck, who was present as guest of honour at the launch on Saturday.

One key feature consumers can look forward to are tips on what they should bear in mind before making a purchase. For example, customers are encouraged check the warranty as well as the terms and conditions before buying a product. Customers can also call Case directly using the app, which is available for download on the Apple app store

The launch of the mobile phone app was held together with Case's educational exhibition to highlight the important milestones of consumer protection in Singapore.

This comes in line with commemorating World Consumer Rights Day, which falls on 15 March every year.
