Eager to get first dibs on Microsoft's Windows 8 and lured by various promotions, Mr Victor Lim was at the queue at 7pm - for the Challenger Store's midnight launch.

After a five-hour wait, the 38-year-old received his copy of Windows 8 Pro upgrade at a special price of $59 (usual price $89) during Challenger's launch event at Funan DigitaLife Mall last Thursday.

As one of the first 88 customers, the customer service engineer also received a $10 voucher from Challenger and a free Canon printer worth $79.

"The price and gifts are very attractive, which makes it worthwhile to queue once more for the new Windows," he said.

He has been using Microsoft's operating system - first its Windows 98 version and later Windows 7. Two years ago when Windows 7 was launched, he too was in the line for the upgrade.

Windows 8 is a fresh start for Microsoft's operating system, which has spawned a new wave of touch screen devices and convertible laptops for consumers to choose from.

Said Challenger's chief operating officer Ben Tan: "Windows 8 is a very exciting product because it generates a lot of interest in tablets and new form factors such as hybrid laptops. We are ready to help customers choose the right version of Windows 8."

On that note, Samsung has also opened its first Samsung Experience Corner at Challenger in Funan DigitaLife Mall.

The collaboration aims to provide consumers with a hands-on experience of the latest Windows 8 devices, along with other Samsung products such as smartphones, tablets, notebooks, printers, monitors and cameras.

Samsung product specialists will also be on site at the retail area, which spans 1,500 sq ft, to assist and advise customers on the latest Samsung products.
