Tired of black and white? Apple has added a new colour option, champagne gold, to its flagship iPhone device.

The gold version joins a white and a slightly retooled “black” colour that the company is touting as "space grey".

The new flagship model shares the same measurements as the current iPhone 5 but comes packed with newer hardware and software.

One new major highlight is the fingerprint sensor, also known as the Touch ID sensor. Located together with the iconic Home button at the base of the device, users can now use their fingerprints to unlock their phone.

Instead of keying a code, or swiping a finger across the scanner, like with the older fingerprint sensors, the Touch ID sensor takes a snapshot of your finger to analyse the fingerprint.

Other improvements include the new A7 processor, which is twice as fast as the one used in the iPhone 5, and a new five-element-lens 8-megapixel camera that offers a larger aperture of f/2.2, as well as a bigger image sensor and dual-tone flash.

The iPhone 5S will go on sale on Sept 20 via the Apple Online Store, as well as all three telcos, at $998 (16GB), $1,148 (32GB) and $1,288 (64GB).
