ST readers tell us why they deserve to win a mystery gift

It’s the time of sharing and giving, and our readers are getting into the charitable spirit.

As we count down to The Straits Times 12 Days of Christmas Surprises, we have received nearly 200 entries so far on why they think they or their loved ones deserve to get a prize from us. We and our presenting partner Standard Chartered are giving out the first daily prize next Friday, so hurry, send in your entries to stxmas@sph.com.sg. Please remember to keep your entries to not more than 40 words. Tech gadgets and household appliances are up for grabs.

Here are some of the interesting entries so far (but some of them exceeded the word limit)...

From Adelyn Goh Han Ling:
Nurturing, patient, kind and loving. He works hard daily for us. Carries the responsibility of providing on his shoulders without complaint. This Christmas, my dad deserves to be pampered for the unconditional love he has given to us.

From Sophia Ang Teng Hui:
I deserve a gift because I read The Straits Times daily. It has been my faithful guide through the years, from a student learning English to an adult keeping up with the news. I am proud of The Straits Times.

From Nor Aniza Binte Abdullah:
My hubby deserves to get a gift as December is his birthday month. It will be his 35th birthday and he's never accepted any birthday gift from me. As long as the family stay strong and be together, that's the greatest gift he would love to receive every year. It will be great if he gets something that may surprise him.

From Jowynn Ang Yu Ying:
When my grandfather passed away, I remember sobbing into the phone and 20 minutes later, there he was, standing at my door. My best friend always gives me the best, so this year for Christmas, he deserves something from me.

From Deepali Gupta:
I would love to win this gift for my loving hubby Nihit Mohan:
He understands me like my father
He cares for me like my mother
He listens to my secrets like my best friend
He loves me like the best lover in this world
I hope he gets the best in the world

From Tay Check Weng:
I want to teach my kids if they want something they must put in effort and try. Always give back to society whenever they can , so others will be happy like them when others receive something from them.

From Tay Han Siong, Raymond:
Due to my wife's medical problems, she could not work long-term and I am financially burdened and not able to pamper her much all these years. She definitely deserves to be pampered for being understanding all these years.

From Shirlene Leong Hong Mei:
My mother has been looking after my sisters and me all by herself for 13 years since our father passed away. Whenever we want to lavish gifts on her, she'll  tell us not to 'waste money'. She needs pampering!

From Goh Tze Wei:
Being the sole breadwinner for 30 years has not been easy for dear old dad. Now that his children are financially independent, my daddy has retired and I would like to give him a present to show my heartfelt thanks!

From Tan Keng Heng Jeremy:
My girlfriend deserves a surprise to know just how special she is to me. I would like to express my appreciation for her always being so understanding and staying with me throughout my NS days and now my overseas studies.

From Lee Aik Ling Cassie:
I deserve to get a gift because I am one of the 100 winners of The Straits Times Run 2013 All-In-One Package and I have been hooked onto ST news ever since!

From Nur Farah Iman Farid:
Hello! My name is Farah Iman Farid. I am 11 years old. My dad always makes me read three articles on the home section of the newspaper. When he gets home from work, he will ask questions about the articles. Whenever I see articles about helping those in need or about disabilities, I will always tell my family about how I feel for them and we will exchange our thoughts with one another. Sorry if this is too long.

From Thong Hwee Hwee:
My husband deserves a Xmas gift because he is a greatest husband and father of two. He sacrifices his own time to help me take care of my two kids (15-month-old & three-month-old) even when he is sick.

From Joan Khng:
My mum! For over 20 years she spent more than two hours daily travelling from one end of Singapore to the next to get to work, and still makes it back to prepare dinner for our family. She is amazing!
