Spotify is launched here: Listen to 20 million songs for free and legally, too
Popular music streaming service Spotify is now available in Singapore and users can listen to more than 20 million songs online for free without infringing intellectual property copyrights.

Besides current English pop hits by the likes of Justin Timberlake and Drake, users can also stream Asian pop singers ranging from Mandopop superstar Jay Chou and K-pop group Girls' Generation to Malaysian singer Yuna and Singapore acts such as indie band Obedient Wives Club.

Non-paying users can access the music only via the service's ad-supported software installed on their laptops or desktop computers.

To listen to the songs commercial-free and on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers, music fans have to pay a $9.90 monthly subscription.

Users can share their self-curated playlists with other Spotify users or let the software choose songs based on a user's musical preferences.

Spotify is not the first digital music service to be launched in Singapore - others including Deezer, Apple's iTunes music store, rara.com and SingTel's AMPed - are already available here.
