Christmas light-ups past and presentDecorative displays along Orchard Road for past 31 years herald festive season
YOU know Christmas is around the corner when the carols start playing in the shopping malls and Singapore's most famous shopping district starts dressing itself up for the season.
Over the past 31 years, the season of giving has also brought with it the gifts of community, splendour and even love during the annual Orchard Road light-up.
Among its most iconic displays over the years: a 10-storey Christmas tree made of glittery bands of lights in 1983; elaborate Santa displays on the facade of the Centrepoint shopping mall in 1996; and the winter wonderland of blue and silver last year.
This year, ribbons of gold-rimmed stars have been draped across the main thoroughfare.
Visitors can also expect to see multi-coloured Christmas trees and sparkly blue snowflakes along the street from Tanglin Mall to Plaza Singapura.
The light-up, which stretches 2.88km, will start at 6.30pm every day, and end on Jan 1.
