NTUC FairPrice launches its annual donation drive for used textbooks

NTUC FairPrice's annual Share-A-Textbook project was launched on Thursday, to collect used primary and secondary school textbooks which are in good condition.

The donation drive will run until Dec 8. Books can be dropped off at all FairPrice, FairPrice Finest and FairPrice Xtra stores. This year, 22 FairPrice Xpress outlets at Esso service stations are also open as collection points, and Esso will be giving 120 Smiles driver reward points to every customer who drops off textbooks at these service stations.

Around 20,000 needy students have registered with grassroots organisations under the project's priority student scheme this year, up from 18,500 last year. They will get to pick up textbooks before the public. In total, FairPrice hopes to collect 385,000 books, to be distributed at Changkat Changi Secondary School, Gan Eng Seng School, Yio Chu Kang Secondary School and West Spring Secondary School on Dec 15.

Mr Seah Kian Peng, chief executive of NTUC FairPrice, said in a media release that the initiative "not only helps needy students save on their textbook costs but also encourages recycling and thrift among the younger generation".
